Founded in 1888, Siberian State Medical University is the oldest medical school in Asian Russia with a glorious 136-year legacy. It has trained over 40,000 doctors and is renowned for its research contributions in cardiology, oncology, and neurology.

Teaching Hospital
SSMU University Hospital is a 1,200-bed multi-specialty teaching hospital equipped with modern diagnostic facilities including MRI, CT scan, digital X-ray, and catheterization labs. Students get hands-on clinical training from Year 3 onwards across departments: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Cardiology, Neurology, and Emergency Medicine.

Course Structure & Curriculum
The 6-year MD (equivalent to MBBS) program follows NMC guidelines: Years 1-2 focus on pre-clinical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology). Year 3 introduces Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology with hospital visits. Years 4-6 are fully clinical with rotations in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OB-GYN, Ophthalmology, ENT, Psychiatry, and community medicine.
Final year includes 12-month rotating internship. Medium of instruction is English with Russian language classes for patient interaction. Assessment through annual university exams.
FMGE / NExT Passing Performance
Siberian State Medical University Tomsk is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC, formerly MCI) and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS). Graduates are eligible to appear for FMGE/NExT (National Exit Test) to practice medicine in India. NMC recognition is verified and valid as of March 2025.
