History & Founding
Dagestan State Medical University was established in 1932 as Dagestan Medical Institute and gained university status in 1994. With over 90 years of medical education excellence, DSMU is one of the leading medical institutions in the North Caucasus region.
The university has trained thousands of doctors who serve across Russia, CIS countries, and internationally. It is recognized by NMC (India), WHO, and listed in WDOMS directory.

Indian students graduating from DSMU are eligible to appear for FMGE/NExT and practice in India after clearing the screening test.

Teaching Hospital
The university operates its own multi-specialty teaching hospital with over 800 beds, providing comprehensive clinical training across all major specialties including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, and more. Students begin hospital-based clinical training from the third year.
The university is also affiliated with 15+ regional hospitals across Dagestan, offering diverse clinical exposure. The teaching hospital is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment including CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, endoscopy units, and well-equipped operation theaters.

Course Structure & Curriculum
The 6-year MBBS program (MD in Russia) follows the European credit system and NMC guidelines. Year 1-2: Pre-clinical subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology, and Russian language. Year 3-6: Clinical subjects including Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, and clinical rotations in university and affiliated hospitals.
The final year includes intensive clinical clerkships and state examinations. Upon successful completion, students receive MD degree (equivalent to MBBS in India) recognized by NMC for FMGE/NExT eligibility.
FMGE / NExT Passing Performance
Dagestan State Medical University is fully recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), India under the Medical Council of India Act. The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and recognized by WHO. Graduates are eligible to appear for FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) / NExT (National Exit Test) to obtain license to practice medicine in India.
Students must complete the mandatory internship (1 year) as per NMC guidelines.
