UNIVERSITY INFORMATION
Founded in 1891, Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) is the medical school of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Indicating a highly selective admission policy, the university exhibits an acceptance rate of 16%.
Washington University held its first Medical classes in 1891 after the St. Louis Medical College got affiliated with the University, establishing a Medical Department. Students of WUSM in St. Louis can pursue their medical education as per their interests in different fields of medicine. Students can take electives in their first year itself, get involved in research projects, and earn an additional master’s degree with a fifth year of study. First-year students will either pass or fail a class, but there will be no grades assigned. For the remaining three years, M.D. students are graded on their performance basis as an honors/high pass/pass/fail scale.
Outside of the classroom, students can get hands-on experience in affiliated hospitals, which also includes the highly ranked St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Washington University School of Medicine is known for its membership with many prestigious organizations like the Universities of Missouri and the College Board, the American Council on Education, the Independent Colleges, and the Association of American Universities.
